About Guildford Ward

Guildford Borough Council Ward, often referred to as Guildford Ward, provides specialist care for patients with a range of infections and diseases that require isolation. With 20 single cubicles, we deliver evidence-based, patient-centred care in a safe and controlled environment.

Our services:

  • Care and treatment for patients with contagious conditions including Covid-19, Tuberculosis (TB), flu, measles, norovirus and chickenpox.

  • Dedicated isolation cubicles, including en-suite facilities, supporting appropriate care for patients with contagious conditions.

  • Care delivered with support from specialist healthcare staff - including medical, surgical, oncology and frailty - to support each patient’s care needs.

Your care team

Our team includes doctors, infection nurses and healthcare assistants, supported by specialists from our medical, surgical and cancer wards as needed. Working collaboratively, we provide compassionate, round-the-clock care focused on your recovery and wellbeing.

Visiting information

Visiting hours

  • 12-8pm daily.

Visitor guidelines

  • Up to two visitors per patient at any one time.
  • Children under 12 years old are not allowed to visit adult wards, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • When you arrive, please check in with a member of ward staff before visiting your loved one.
  • There may be a requirement for visitors to wear personal protective equipment and ensure strict hand washing. You will be guided by one of the nurses if this is appropriate for your visit.
  • If you are visiting a patient receiving end-of-life care, we will aim to accommodate more visitors, usually up to four people a day, but this may vary depending on ward pressures. The matron or nurse in charge will provide more information when needed.
  • Read and follow our infection control guidelines (see below).

Help keep our patients safe and well

Please don’t visit if you have:

  • Any signs of infection.
  • Had diarrhoea, vomiting or symptoms of flu in the last 48 hours.

While visiting a patient, please:

  • Do not bring flowers.
  • Use the public toilets (not the ones on the wards – they are for patients only).
  • Don’t eat at bedsides.
  • Do not touch patient’s wounds bandages/dressings or medical equipment.

Before you visit, please read and follow our infection control information guidelines, which help protect our patients from germs.

  • Walk across the road towards the car park.
  • Turn left and walk along the path.

Final step

  • When you reach the bend, cross over.
  • Keep walking forward up the small hill, then turn right. You will be at the main entrance of the Guildford Ward.

First point of contact: Speak to the ward nurse in charge – we want patients to feel informed and comfortable during their stay.
