Blue Badge parking

New Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system: what you need to know

From Thursday, 8 May 2025, our main Guildford hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital, is introducing a new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system to improve your experience on site.

This barrier-free system captures your vehicle’s registration as you enter and exit. For visitors who need to pay for parking, charges are calculated based on the length of stay, and payment can be made at on-site machines before you leave.

  • All visitors can drop off and pick up passengers for free for up to 20 minutes.

Blue Badge holders – free parking with registration

If you have a Blue Badge, you are entitled to free parking - but you must register your vehicle. There are two ways to do this:

Option 1: Pre-register for an ongoing Blue Badge permit

Register once and your permit stays active until your Blue Badge expires.

You’ll need:

  • A mobile phone
  • An email address

How to Register:

  1. Visit nexusplatform.co.uk/register
  2. Create your account (using your email and mobile number).
  3. Confirm your email address via the link sent to you.
  4. Enter the one-time passcode sent to you via SMS.
  5. Set a 6-digit access code. This code allows you to log in without needing a one-time-passcode (OTP) in the future.
  6. Use invitation code: P74R73K
  7. Upload your vehicle details and a photo of your Blue Badge.
  8. You’ll receive confirmation – your permit is now active.

Option 2: Daily permit – validate each time you visit

Show your Blue Badge (or a photo of it) and give your car registration at:

  • The parking office (next to the main hospital entrance)
  • The Cancer Centre reception (Level A)

You can register before or after your appointment, but it must be done before you leave the car park.

Frequently asked questions

Should I register my Blue Badge before or after my appointment?

You may register your permit either before or after your appointment — just make sure it is registered before leaving the car park.

Can I register more than one car?

Only one car can be linked to your permit at a time. To use a different car:

  • Log in to your online account and change the plate using the ‘edit’ option.
  • Or register the new car on-site on the day ofyour visit at a validation console. These can be found in the parking office at the main entrance or in the Cancer Centre reception, Level A.

What if I change cars?

You can update your registration online by logging into your account and editing the permit.

What if I’m a volunteer driver for a Blue Badge holder?

If you’re just dropping off or collecting, you’ll have 20 minutes free. If staying longer, register the Blue Badge at a validation point, at the parking office at the main entrance or in the Cancer Centre reception, Level A.

Do I need to carry my Blue Badge to register it?

No — you can bring a photo or copy on your phone instead.

If my car is registered to a Blue Badge holder but they are not with me. Do I have to pay?

Yes you do need to pay. The Blue Badge is only for use by the holder and so if they are not accompanying you on your visit to the hospital you must pay for parking.
