About Shere Ward

Shere Ward provides specialist postnatal care for mothers and babies who need additional support before going home. We are committed to delivering expert, compassionate care that helps you recover and build confidence in caring for your new baby.
 
Our services:

  • Postnatal care for mothers and babies requiring additional monitoring or support.
  • Recovery care following birth complications or caesarean section.
  • Infant feeding support and advice.
  • Infant Feeding Room - a dedicated quiet space where you can receive personalised support from our feeding specialists and maternity support workers.
  • Preparation and support for a safe discharge home.

Your care team

We have a dedicated team of experienced healthcare professionals, including midwives, consultant obstetricians, paediatricians and maternity support workers, with input from other services as required. Working collaboratively, we provide compassionate, round-the-clock care focused on supporting your recovery and helping you feel confident and ready to go home with your baby.

Visiting information

Visiting times

  • 9am-8pm for partners. If you wish to stay overnight, you will need to sign an overnight agreement.
  • 10am -12pm and 6pm-8pm for all other visitors, including siblings of the baby

Visitor guidelines

  • A maximum of three people at the bedside.
  • No children under the age of 12 are allowed on the ward unless they are the sibling of the baby.
  • Read and follow our infection control guidelines (see below).

Help keep our patients safe and well

Please don’t visit if you have:

  • Any signs of infection.
  • Had diarrhoea, vomiting or symptoms of flu in the last 48 hours.

While visiting a patient, please:

  • Do not bring flowers.
  • Use the public toilets (not the ones on the wards – they are for patients only).
  • Don’t eat at bedsides.
  • Do not touch patient’s wounds bandages/dressings or medical equipment.

Before you visit, please read and follow our infection control information guidelines, which help protect our patients from germs.

Getting to Shere Ward

Online map

You can use our online map to navigate around our site. Head to the West Wing, where you will find stairs and lifts to our ward floors A, B, F and G.

What Three Words

flap.lime.erase - this will take you to the West Wing lift/stairs lobby. 

Directions from the hospital main entrance

  • Walk straight ahead past the reception desk on your right.
  • Continue past M&S on your left until the corridor becomes a T-junction.
  • Look for the hospital map on the wall directly in front of you (this can help if you get lost).

Head to the West Wing

  • Turn left towards the West Wing.
  • Walk along the corridor, continuing past the Pharmacy on your right, until you come to Outpatients 5.
  • Turn right, taking the corridor opposite Outpatients 5.
  • Walk past the Chapel on your right, and you will immediately reach the stairwell/lift lobby also on your right.

To reach level G

  • Take either the lift or the stairs to level G (top floor).

Final step: 

  • Follow the ward signs on level G Shere Ward.
