About Merrow Ward

Merrow Ward is a 24-bed ward that looks after patients with a variety of cardiology conditions. We are committed to delivering expert, patient-centred care that supports breathing, recovery and quality of life.

Our services: 

  • We have a heart failure service within the ward that provides specialist diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients with heart and circulatory diseases, such as heart attacks, irregular heart rhythms and chronic heart failure. 

  • Working closely with our Coronary Care Unit, we care for patients who are admitted for urgent and emergency care requiring close monitoring. We also care for patients needing close monitoring whilst awaiting specialist procedures in a tertiary hospital.

  • Cardiac rehabilitation support to help patients recover and regain confidence after a cardiac event.

Your care team

Our team includes experienced cardiologists, specialist cardiac nurses and cardiac physiologists, supported by other allied health professionals as needed. Working collaboratively, we provide compassionate, round-the-clock care focused on your recovery and wellbeing.

Visiting information

Visiting hours

  • 12-8pm daily.

Visitor guidelines

  • Up to two visitors per patient at any one time.
  • Children under 12 years old are not allowed to visit adult wards, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • When you arrive, please check in with a member of ward staff before visiting your loved one.
  • If you are visiting a patient receiving end-of-life care, we will aim to accommodate more visitors, usually up to four people a day, but this may vary depending on ward pressures. The matron or nurse in charge will provide more information when needed.
  • Read and follow our infection control guidelines (see below).

Help keep our patients safe and well

Please don’t visit if you have:

  • Any signs of infection.
  • Had diarrhoea, vomiting or symptoms of flu in the last 48 hours.

While visiting a patient, please:

  • Do not bring flowers.
  • Use the public toilets on Levels A and B. Ward toilets are for patients only.
  • Don’t eat at bedsides.
  • Do not touch patient’s wounds bandages/dressings or medical equipment.

Before you visit, please read and follow our infection control information guidelines, which help protect our patients from germs.

Getting to Merrow Ward

Online map

You can use our  online map  to navigate around our site. Head to the East Wing, where you will find stairs and lifts to our East Wing ward floors A, B, C, D and E.

What Three Words

rise.local.copper - this will take you to the East Wing lift/stairs lobby. 

Directions from the hospital main entrance:

  • Walk straight ahead past the reception desk on your right.
  • Continue past M&S on your left until the corridor becomes a T-junction.
  • Look for the hospital map on the wall directly in front of you (this can help if you get lost).

Head to the East Wing:

  • Turn right towards the East Wing.
  • Walk along the corridor until you come to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doors. 
  • Turn right just before the ICU doors (do not enter the ICU).

To reach Level E:

  • You will now find the East Wing lifts on your left and the East Wing stairs on your right.
  • Take either the lift or the stairs to Level E (two floors up from ground level).

Final step: 

  • Follow the ward signs on Level E to reach Merrow Ward

First point of contact: Speak to the ward nurse in charge – we want patients to feel informed and comfortable during their stay.
