About Chilworth Day Unit

Chilworth Day Unit is a specialist cancer unit, treating around 140 patients each day. As a day unit, patients attend for treatment and return home the same day. The unit is open for scheduled appointments between 8.30am-6pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am-3pm, Saturday.

Our services:

  • Anti-cancer treatments including chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
  • Blood transfusions to manage treatment side effects or cancer-related symptoms.
  • IV fluid therapy for hydration and symptom management.
  • Monitoring and support throughout treatment sessions.
  • Expert management of treatment side effects.
  • Nurse Led PICC Line Service.

What to expect during your visit

There will always be a nurse present throughout your treatment, so help and support is never far away.

You are welcome to get up and move around the unit during your visit. Tea and coffee making facilities are available free of charge, and toilet facilities are located on the unit.

Your care team

We have a multidisciplinary team of experienced healthcare professionals, including oncology consultants, specialist SACT nurses, healthcare assistants, and pharmacists, with input from other services such as dietitians and the fountain centre team as required.

Working collaboratively, we provide compassionate, personalised care throughout your treatment.

Visiting guidelines

Loved ones are welcome to support patients as they arrive at the unit, but will not be able to stay during treatment - this is to minimise the risk of infection and provide the safest care environment for our patients.

Visitors are welcome to wait in the Cancer Centre reception on Level B, where there is a Costa Coffee, or in the Costa Coffee bar located next to our hospital’s main entrance on Level B.

If you are a carer of a patient with additional needs, please liaise with your Clinical Nurse Specialist or speak with the nurse in charge.
