Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is a medical and surgical management of conditions of the eye and its attached parts. Our Ophthalmology department is a modern, purpose-built unit providing up-to-date diagnostic and treatment facilities. 

Service details

If you have an eye examination and the optometrist finds signs of an eye condition, they or your GP will refer you to an ophthalmologist. The conditions they treat can include eye trauma, cataracts, corneal transplant and diabetic eye conditions.

Royal Surrey is home to the regional centre for macular degeneration and provides specialist clinics as follows:

  • Eye movements
  • Medical and surgical retinal treatments
  • Oculoplastics
  • Orthoptics

  • Glaucoma
  • Laser (YAG capsulotomy)

  • Neuro-ophthalmology
  • Oculoplastics/Orbits/Lacrimal
  • Squint/Ocular motility
  • Age-related macular degeneration and intravitreal injection service
  • Minor operations

Who is eligible for the service?

  • Eye casualty patients.
  • Patients referred by a gp/optician for any of the services above. 

How to access the service?

We take referrals from GPs and opticians. You can contact our nurses on 01483571122 ext. 4648 if you need to be seen in our Eye Emergency clinic.
