Your questions answered

We realise that you will have lots of questions ahead of your treatment. Below are a selection of the questions we are frequently asked by patients starting Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT). If you have any further questions, please ask a member of the team who will be happy to help you.

What should you bring with you?

You are welcome to bring any belongings with you, but please be aware that they must be checked for radioactivity before you leave. We may need to keep any radioactive belongings for a period of time after you have left the hospital. Any clothes and towels we keep will be washed and dried by us. You can collect these and any other belongings from the Nuclear Medicine department after about two weeks. Unclaimed belongings are kept by us for six months only, and may then be disposed of.

Items that you might find useful to bring into hospital include:  snacks and drinks, pyjamas (very likely to be kept); slippers (may be kept); clothes to wear in the room (very likely to be kept); books/magazines (unlikely to be kept, but don’t bring library books); mobile phone (we will cover this in cling film so it will not be kept); and toiletries (your toothbrush may be kept). The hospital provides towels, blankets and bed linen. Please bring a complete change of clothes with you to wear when you are discharged. These will be stored in your treatment room away from any radioactivity.

There is free WiFi in the hospital if you would like to use it.

Are you allowed visitors?

It is advisable not to have any visitors to the hospital from the time of your radioactive administration.
