Appointments

First appointment

Your first appoint will normally be in the Consultant Led Clinic. This will usually be on a Thursday in our Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, which is held in Outpatients 8, Level B, of the main hospital. Your doctor will normally be accompanied by your clinical nurse specialist. After this initial appointment, you will also meet our dietitians, speech and language therapists and a dentist.

Surgery – If you are having surgery you will have a Pre-Operative appointment. You will also have a follow-up with the surgeon post-surgery. Discover more about cancer surgery at Royal Surrey.

 

Medical team review  – During treatment you will have a weekly review by your medical team. This is your opportunity to raise any concerns or flag any effects of treatment that you may be experiencing. Learn more about outpatient appointments.

Clinics

Dietitians – Before your treatment starts, it is important to eat as well as possible. Your treatment may make it difficult for you to eat and your dietitian will talk to you about how you can prepare for this. Find out more about eating well with cancer.

 

Nutrition Nurses – Patients having surgery and radiotherapy will meet with our nutrition nurses as you may need to be fed through a tube. Learn more about how are nutrition nurses can help you.

 

Dentist – Before having radiotherapy, your teeth will be checked by a dentist. If any need to be removed, this will be done prior to treatment starting.

 

Speech and Language Therapy – A therapist may talk to you about the effects that treatment may have on your speech and swallowing. Discover more about our Speech and Language Team.

 

Blood tests – During treatment you may need weekly blood tests. If you are having chemotherapy, these blood tests will need to take place prior to receiving treatment. Find out more about blood tests and book your next appointment.
