Scientific, Technical and Allied Health Professionals - Sophie Why

I am a therapeutic radiographer who works in radiotherapy as one of the operational leads for quality and patient safety. I qualified as a radiographer in 2008 and began my career working as a treatment radiographer. In 2013 I moved to the radiotherapy department in the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and began working as a pre-treatment radiographer. In more recent year's senior colleagues encouraged me to gain experience working within the radiotherapy quality and patient safety team. I found a passion I didn't know existed for this area and moved into the operational lead role in 2023. I am very passionate about patient care and experience and strive to make improvements within this on a daily basis within my role. I am keen to use this experience as an advocate in my role as a staff governor. I feel allied health professionals (AHP’s) have historically been underrepresented within healthcare, therapeutic radiographers even more so. As such I was keen to become a staff governor on behalf of AHPs to be able to advocate for them as well as patients. There has been a lot of positive movement with getting the AHP voice heard and I am keen to continue in this within my role.
