Two of our lead therapeutic radiographers are celebrating significant milestones with the use of the adaptive radiotherapy service.
Launched in 2020, ground-breaking online adaptive radiotherapy marked a major advancement in personalised cancer care.
The team trained a dedicated group of therapeutic radiographers in the complex art of delivering online adaptive treatments for bladder and cervical cancers.
Using the cutting-edge Varian Ethos platform, powered by artificial intelligence, the team is able to refine each patient’s treatment daily, giving a more precise and effective therapy than was ever possible before.
They were the first in the world to start treating patient’s cervical cancers in such a precise way.
So far, more than 130 patients have been treated and recently Miriam Rashid and Nawda Fazel reached significant milestones.
Nawda has treated more than 1,000 adaptive sessions and Miriam with over 1,500.
Miriam said: “It’s fantastic because we can personalise the treatment for each individual patient so they get better results with a more targeted treatment.
“To have reached this milestone feels phenomenal. It doesn’t feel quite real sometimes, especially when people say that we are the first in the world to be doing this.”
Nawda added: “It’s great to get the opportunity to be doing this.”
Laura Turner, Professional Head of Radiotherapy, said: “Miriam and Nawda should be incredibly proud of this achievement, using cutting edge technology to drive improvements to patient experience and outcomes. They are fabulous role models in the world of therapeutic radiography.”
