New Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre incoming!

A crane is placing the first module onto the foundations of the CASIC, which is around six metres off the ground, being steadied into place by a builder. Three more builders look on and Royal Surrey hospital is in the background.

The first of the 176 modules that will make up the new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre (CASIC) at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust landed last week (Wednesday 7 May).

Over the next few weeks, around eight modules of the three-storey pre-fabricated structure will arrive at the site each day, including weekends, after making the 200-mile journey from Hull.

Once they arrive, construction workers will move and install them using a 450-tonne crane to create the new, innovative facility.

Boasting cutting-edge operating theatres, a recovery area, a short-stay ward and a post-anaesthetic care unit, the CASIC will enable an additional 7,000 patients to receive surgery every year.
