Work is continuing at pace to create our new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre, with the building set to start taking shape in late spring.
To date, 57 of the 180 modules that will make up the three-storey structure have been constructed in Hull, Yorkshire, with the remainder expected to be completed in early 2025.
These will then be driven the 200 miles to Guildford where around 100 construction workers, assisted by a 450 tonne crane, will move them into position in a matter of weeks.
To prepare for the modules' arrival, the team on-site have cleared and levelled the area adjacent to ICU, as well as carried out significant drainage work. They have also installed 227 piles and started the construction of a retaining wall.
Once completed the centre will provide six new operating theatres, as well as a recovery area, short stay ward and post anaesthetic care unit (PACU).
